6 Art Hotels in Berlin to Get Your Creative Juices Flowing

By Lizzie Davey @Wanderarti · On 26 February, 2015

Contemporary arts and design scene, world-famous nightlife, historic attractions, and weird and wonderful food – Berlin really does have it all.

It’s a city that’s famous for its young creatives, its heavy emphasis on modern design and minimalist culture, but is also imbued with a rich history and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

I personally loved Berlin when I visited a couple of years ago, though I only got to spend a short amount of time there. It really does have a unique ambiance and there’s a lively buzz that is woven into every street.

There is, of course, the city’s tragic history, too, which adds a certain kind of depth to the aesthetic intricacies that have taken centre stage in recent years.

What with it being a hugely arty city and a popular tourist hangout, there are a great selection of hotels dotted around the city that relay surrealist finds on the walls, or highlight creative details.

Today I’ve collected a few of the top art hotels in Berlin for you to browse through.

Arte Luise Kunsthotel

With the tagline “the art traveller’s home in Berlin”, this hotel was made for creative lovers. Each room has been designed and created by an artist, like Thomas Baumgartel (a.k.a. the banana sprayer – yep, that’s right!), Stefan Jung, who creates work based on the human eye and photography, and Gabriel Heimler, who has created a cartoon environment in one of the rooms. The best thing about the Arta Luise Kunsthotel is that every stay is different – with so many different rooms to choose from, you’re bound to have an interesting experience whichever one you end up resting your head in.

Art’Otel

This is one of Berlin’s top art hotels and boasts a selection of room types each inspired by a different artist or movement. There’s a room dedicated to the colourful screenprints of Andy Warhol, and other rooms with quirky floors and eye-catching artwork on the walls. The Art’Otel is ideally located by Park Plaza, too, placing you right in the middle of all the action.

Honigmond Hotel

This is a little less contemporary and a little more classic arty. With rooms bathed in rich reds, greens, and golds, the Honigmond harks back to luxurious days with romantic decor and plush four-poster beds. Instead of contemporary art adorning the walls, you have the pleasure of waking up to renaissance-style paintings and classic landscapes.

This five-star hotel is a plush, upmarket option for art lovers looking for somewhere to stay in Berlin. Rooms are characterised by gallery-style white walls with splashes of bright oranges and yellows. Furniture is contemporary with sleek shapes and functional materials, whilst abstract paintings and patterened textiles and a creative bump.
